Sparta, legendary for the bravery and terse wit of its citizens, is the last obstacle to the Persian Empire's conquest of Greece.

King Leonidas has been dispatched with his elite bodyguard of 300 men to lead the allied Greek army and repel a much larger Persian invasion force.

The situation is also dire at home. There are rumors of foreign agents stirring trouble. Regent Pausanias himself is suspected of conspiring with the Persians, of plotting with the disenfranchised, non-citizen helots--who outnumber Spartan citizens seven to one.

Like never before, the Spartans begin to question the true allegiance of their very own. More than ever, they must live up to the truest Spartan values, and ruthlessly crush those who fail to do so.

This game will be an online adaptation of the original rules of the game, as described by Dimitry Davidoff: http://maximumawesome.com/articles/mafiaoriginal.htm

FORMAT
13 PLAYERS - 4 MAFIA, 9 TOWN

All roles are assigned 100% randomly.

Known number of Traitors (mafia) and True Spartans (plain townies), calculated using Davidoff's formula. Only mafia will receive role emails.

Traitors know each other, but they CANNOT communicate during game-night.

All Traitors alive must target the same person for a successful night kill. They can target themselves or fellow Traitors. Targets are not optional; the moderator will randomly assign targets not sent. Game-night lasts 48 hours.

A majority (more than 50%) of votes is required for a lynch, or dispersal (no lynch). Multiple lynches per day are allowed. There will be no time limit to game-days. Vote counts do not reset after a lynch. Players may vote for someone else even if the lynch was not yet sanctioned officially.

There are no minimum posting requirements. The town can take care of that problem using multiple lynches.

The identities of the dead are not revealed. They can only be deduced from the number of targets occurring in the following night.

The game ends when Traitors attain majority, or the town declares a night and no deaths are attempted.


THEME FLAVOR
If more than half the players are alive at end of game-day, the person with the largest number of un-Spartan posts in a game-day (double-posting counts) will require 1 less vote to lynch the following day.

For the entire game, the person with the most Spartan-like post in a game-day will be immune to kill the following night.

These (inherently subjective) awards will be announced at the end of game-day. When there is a tie or no clear winner, I will choose randomly between the candidates. You might want to familiarize yourself with laconic wit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laconic_phrase


RULES
The usual, plus:
Traitors (mafia) are not allowed to communicate with each other during game night.
Do NOT ever edit your posts, for any reason. Any editing = a most un-Spartan death by mod.

Very nice indeed. I'm also planning a Romanian one, about some of our least known famous ancestors: the democratic, non-violent, highly original Cucuteni-Tripolye.

We need 2 more. I've settled on a 9 town, 4 mafia format. If we don't get 2 more sign-ins soon, we could switch to a 7t3m format by asking someone to volunteer for alternate.

That's a good point. I understand that people might need to re-reaf the game thread and to personally make some plots, but 48h seems a lot for that given the fact that no interaction between mafia is possible.

If the linked rules by Davidoff are implemented directly, then having no deaths at night appears to be very likely, even on multiple nights. It's hard for multiple mafia members to target the same person without exchanging information.
